# If I have a mental illness diagnosis, can my insurance classify this as a preexisting condition and change my benefits?

You cannot be charged more or be refused coverage because you have a preexisting condition. Once you have insurance, the company cannot refuse to cover treatment on the basis of it being a preexisting condition.
